| Each box is hand made, using the score and slip hand building technique. The lid is cut off. The inside is then decorated with a small clay hand-sculptured treasure inside the bottom of each box, for example a small orchid inside the orchid box, banana inside the monkey box. The inside of the lid is decorated with a phase or saying that fits the motif of the box. I've been using "Monkey Business" in many of the monkey boxes, but the phases vary depending on my day's inspiration. Feet are added. I use two different styles - either fluted feet like on the orchid box picture or strawberry feet like on the piano box. Handles are added on many of the boxes, then the motif on the top. |

| After completion, each box slowly dries for about a week and is then bisque fired. Raku glazes are applied. After drying overnight, the piece is raku fired. About 30% of all boxes are lost in the firing process, due to the pressure put on the pieces going from room temperature to 2000 degrees, then back to room temperature within a couple of hours. However, the glaze effects from raku firing are worth the effort. Raku Boxes - $65 each, plus $15 shipping. Allow 6 weeks for special orders. |
